The studio
The studio begins on the ground, between olive trees, on the road, in the in-between.
The work moves through light and wind, across the hills of Sir, a small village north of Jenin. This is where the archive started. The work centres on Palestine.
Every roll crosses a border on its way out. At the checkpoints, Israeli scanning machines pass the film through radiation. The exposure leaves a mark — sometimes a burn, a streak, a quiet interruption in the image. These are the films that survived. They were developed and scanned at Darkroom Amman.
Please allow the imperfections of these photographs. They are not mistakes.
